This time last year, I started having the worst breakouts of my life. 🍕 I'm not exaggerating, I never had acne issues growing up. Then, from out of nowhere, last October, it came on strong 👻 and stayed way past its not-so-welcome. ⁣

I'm happy to say, one year later, not only has my cystic acne cleared, but the scaring from it is all but gone along with the redness and texture issues I did have all my life. ⁣

This weekend felt like a "big one" for some reason. ⁣🐳⁣
⁣⁣
Maybe its because, for the first time in a long time, we played. We said screw the housework, we set aside work-work, we went to breakfast on the first chilly day of the season, and we took it easy. Together. Just the 3 of us. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We normally have a lot of snuggles in bed (that's usually how Maddie wakes us up), but this time we just cuddled and napped and didn't worry about what was next. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Saturday, we spent the whole day at Sea World (judge me, I said I'd never do it), but my daughter loved it. The weather was gorgeous, it wasn't too crowded, and I had cotton candy for the first time in...probably 15 years. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Sunday, Maddie and I made Halloween cupcakes, and I ate one and a half of them. 🎃⁣
⁣⁣
It felt strange and good just to play, not to workout, and eat to whatever I wanted. This past weekend reminded me that sometimes, you need to feel like a kid and be silly. Hoping for more days like this ahead!⁣ ☕⁣

A few weeks ago, when Madeline had to bring a family picture to school for her classroom's family tree, I realized it had been almost a year since we'd taken our last family 📷. I won't let that happen again. ⁣
⁣
More pictures, more videos, no matter what. Not for social media, but for us. ❤⁣
⁣
When I was little, I would have sleepovers with my cousins; we'd occasionally pull out old home videos to watch. It always made me sad. In their home, they had the videos, the pictures, the whole idea of family. At that age, in my home, there weren't any photos or videos to watch. At that age, in my home, most of the time, it was just me. And when it wasn't, my memories are mainly of my mother sleeping. ⁣
⁣
Every time Maddie asks me to play with her, I think back to the many many times I asked my mom to play with me. I don't recall her ever playing with me. I remember her sleeping, her shooing me away, and then rolling over on the couch. ⁣
⁣
I don't play with my daughter as much as I should (especially this past year), but as I begin to take control back of my schedule and allow myself to shift focus, I've been able to let myself have fun with her again. Be silly with her (within reason)- Dad is usually the silly one. The active, high energy one.⁣
⁣
Mom... not so much. The other day, Maddie and I were playing upstairs, and I noticed Bryan had been quietly watching. He said, "she doesn't play with me like that." We had been pretending. She was the patient, her giant Mickey Mouse, the dentist, and I was Mickey's nurse. ⁣
⁣
It's these make-believe moments together that develop a very real and strong connection. It's these moments I hope to have (and capture) more often. ❤❤❤
